Should I keep quiet just because I’m a Christian? Even when it hurts

It’s a  Thursday evening, I set my alarm, jump into bed feeling all worn out – fatigued, sore throat, flue and not really ready to work.(I do the night shift) Ring ring,, goes the alarm after what to me seems like 30 minutes but guess what; It’s been a whole 3 hours. I try to lift my head and it feels like someone just hit me with Thor’s hammer; okay let’s try one foot – oh boy did someone just tie me up??

As all these thoughts go through mind, I try talking to God but wait; what should I tell God? Should I cry out about my heaviness, anxiety, pain or approach Him and confess that: “You know what God, I am fine, I do not feel the hammered head, I thank you” As a growing Christian, I know there is a scripture 1 Thessalonians 5:18 that says “ In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” also one in 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” so my head really kept debating about what to do until I finally got out of bed and prepared for work.

Of late anytime I try to tell someone I feel pain or emotionally worn out (even when they insist I be genuine with them); I get the response, “You are well in Jesus’ name, never say you are sick or tired” and this has led me to a point where anytime I feel hurt I try to talk to God alone; well even when I feel really tired, heavy and need to talk to someone human lol. Anyway back to my point; As Christians, should we really only open up to God even when we feel hurt, weak, worn out? Are counselors God sent – after all what they normally listen to is brokenness, hurt, wounded hearts? Should we only trust God with our pain and keep silent because “All is well” ? For now, let me leave this to you.Evelyn thelevelupblog insanitybytes2 Leighann Eddie S Meagan Lee Maria Alesi Miriam Kyas Brad Watson

No, You should not keep quiet!!! God did not come for the people who don’t need him. He came for those of us who need him. When you feel drained physically, emotionally, or spiritually that’s when you should ask God for help. A simple, God help me is all that you need especially when you can’t think of what to say. God wants your heart even when you’re tired and unwell. Cry out to him at all times, In the good and the bad. Don’t take anything to heart or let it stop you from speaking to people when you are feeling unwell. Sometimes the bible can be confusing and can leave you questioning many things and that’s when you need to just pray and ask for help so that you can understand things better. God likes questions and he will always give an answer. (Matthew 7:7-10) I hope things get better for you and you pray through it all. 🙂

    1. Wow interesting, I surely hope so too. And well I have to agree with you at times the Bible does confuse especially when we just randomly pick out scripture expecting to be ministered to but then randomly reading so that we get the human satisfaction out of it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i491Z5gwVL4 I found this very useful because it’s a practical way of learning how to study our bibles. Hope it helps. If you’re still struggling hand this over to the Lord he will help you out. 🙂

God calls us to relate with Him from a genuine point. He calls us His Children. For me that speaks volumes. Which child does not openly speak-up his/her hurts unless it’s an unhealthy relationship with their parents? I don’t just confess positive for the sake, I for one tell God what I#m going through for He knows it. God is my Father!!

        Amen. We are His children!
I read these words in a devotional last year and they have stuck with me…
“Thats’s the paradox of depending on God. The more you’re weak, the more you depend on God. And the more you depend on God the stronger you get.”
We are His children and the more we depend on Him the stronger we get.

  2. Hi Phoebe… there is a thin line between confessing negatively and stating what you actually feel. I’m afraid I can not state it clearly but often I know it. I find it is easy to share the true state I am in with particular people who know that I am stating a fact but I know and believe the truth. Remember facts change but truth does not e.g I do not have money on me right now (fact) but yet I know that I am rich in Jesus. Thank you for sharing

    1. OK I get this now, You’ve highlighted it, truth vs fact.. So I can state the fact but knowing there is a greater truth above it all. A Truth that no human pain can take away..

  3. Alongside talking to God in prayer, listening to him by wrestling with the Bible text is the exclusive means by which we interact with him . But we also must be alert about therapeutic alternatives-even in Christian circles- that often just soothe rather adress our deepest vexations.

The psalms are a good example for believing wrestlers,an often vexed David cried out to God, complained to God, questioned and questioned more.

Physical and mental weariness reminds us all that we are human, and finite, in times when the body is speaking otherwise, it’s important to review how we have been spending our time and energies, practically speaking- exercise, eating well, sleeping long are means of grace too.

Even the best counsellors are those who rely on God’s counsel to restore us back into communion with God, we must admit that God has also provided phsical means for our finite selves to recuperate.

    1. I guess at times all we look for are people to just go with the flow to agree with us, to make UA feel better yet we have a greater call, taking it to God. I love the fact that you have highlighted that Counselors should rely on God. Thanks for sharing

  4. I hear you my friend however God doesn’t need you acting all strong, he needs you to be naked with him and honest and tell him how you really are feeling because in your weakness, he is strong.
We are human and to be human is to accept that times will come when we are weak, sick, tired, frustrated but at such times, you don’t act out strong, you surrender and God will take over and surround you with people who understand and can minister to you during your weak moments. Also understand that people’s spiritual maturity is different. While to some you may come off as confessing negative, to others, you are actually being true that you are weak and also acknowledging that even when you are weak, you know God in his strength will make you strong and so you don’t give up hope.

    1. OK this got me… What I get here is spiritual maturity, may be at times we end up talking to the people who actually aren’t meant to minister to us. Thanks mukazi for highlighting this.
